I did a big clean up of the pea patch last weekend, getting the bed ready for winter. I was happy to see a few delicata squash for the taking--I honestly didn't think that I would get any fall squash. Tough year for gardening, I just can't say that enough! I wasn't very successful in preserving my own harvest this season, but certainly took advantage of the bounty of others. Here's a quick round up of what I've stored for winter:1 gallon each of strawberries, blueberries and blackberry/raspberry (frozen)
4 1/2 gallon bags of rhubarb (frozen)
8 bags of roasted poblanos (2 poblanos per bag)
3 bags of roasted sweet peppers (2 per bag)
8 1/2 pints of pesto (frozen)
4 1/2 pints of tomatillo salsa (frozen)
4 quarts of peaches in light syrup
5 pints of strawberry jam
5 pints of tayberry & cassis jam
6 1/2 pints of apricot jam
6 1/2 pints of cherry jam
I am praying to the garden gods that I get a pea patch in Seattle next year. I plan to keep my Woodinville patch, just in case that doesn't happen.. If I have both, I will use my Woodinville space for heartier plantings like garlic, onions, potatoes and maybe fall squash that aren't so delicate as to require daily watering and pampering. I hope to save that level of care and oversight for a patch of land closer to home..
