Girls weekend

This weekend, my aunt Anita came up from Tucson for a quick girls weekend. She arrived late Thursday afternoon, and we went directly from the airport to the Mukilteo ferry to go over to Whidbey Island. Since she has been to Seattle a few times, I wanted to do something a little different. My plan for the weekend was simple: take in the beautiful scenery, have some good food, taste some delicious wine, and lots of conversation.

We arrived at our room in Langley before dark, allowing us just enough time to catch the last of the days light bouncing off the waters right outside of our door. Our room was equipped with a little kitchenette, so I had planned ahead a dinner of spaghetti bolognese to go along with the yummy bottle of sangiovese I brought. We woke up to sun breaks and spent the day exploring the island towns of Langley and Coupeville.. A big bowl of steamed mussels and beer on Penn Cove for lunch... Admired the views from Deception Pass, and more window shopping in La Conner.

Saturday was stunning- bright blue skies and warm temperatures- perfect for our day out in Woodinville wine tasting. Dinner was at the community table at my favorite, Sitka & Spruce. It was a fantastic weekend, and I feel so lucky to have the relationship with Anita that I do. I remember weekends alone with just my aunt- no parents, no sister- just her and I. It could have been just a few weekends, since we moved away when I was quite young, but those memories are strong. My memories of my auntie are all my own. It's the memories that I have with her that I model my relationship with my niece with. I want Jasmine to have memories of doing things together, just her and I. I anxiously await the time when I can have Jasmine out to visit, on her own, for a weekend with her auntie.
