It's a dreary January, so of course that means a trip down to California for some wine tasting! Scott and I headed down this past weekend to meet up with his friend Sherrill and attend the ZAP festival- the Zinfandel Advocates & Producers. We were of the 'advocate' variety. We arrived in San Fransisco early Friday afternoon, and waited for Sherrill to arrive down from Sonoma (Can I just mention how jealous I am that she lives in Sonoma? I am.) The two of them trusted me to make our dinner reservations for the weekend, so before setting off to dinner on Friday, we had a
little zinfandel tasting in our room. What wonderful wines! Dinner was at
A16- and was much anticipated on my part. Southern Italian cuisine, a great wine list, and atmosphere filled with energy of many people having a great time.

The festival was on Saturday, held in two large warehouses at Fort Mason. It was huge. Beyond huge- 230 wineries, each pouring 2-5 wines a piece. While in line, I had mapped out some wineries that I wanted to stop at. Upon entering, you're given a baguette and off you go. Giant cheese displays and a warehouse full of zinfandel. There are worst ways to spend a day..
Another couple of delicious dinners
here and
here, an afternoon spent strolling through the
Ferry Building, bringing home
olive oil, a movie on Monday afternoon and the weekend was over and it was time to come home. A quick getaway but full of laughter, good food and wine.
